A Festive End to an Incredible Year at Care Hubz

As 2024 comes to a close, we’ve been reflecting on the amazing moments shared at Care Hubz over the past few months. From spooky Halloween fun to heartfelt tributes for Remembrance Day and the festive cheer of December, it’s been a season filled with creativity, connection, and celebration. Here’s a look back at everything that’s made this time so special.

Halloween House Competition

October was all about embracing the spooky season with our Halloween House Decorating Competition. Each house brought their A-game, transforming their spaces with eerie cobwebs, glowing pumpkins, and creative twists that truly wowed us. The competition was a fun way to come together, share some laughs, and celebrate the season with a bit of friendly rivalry.

Honouring Remembrance Day

November brought a more reflective tone as we commemorated Remembrance Day. This year, Broadlane House honoured the occasion with stunning creative window art. The window offered a moving tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. The display brought a sense of unity and respect that resonated throughout our community.

Christmas Cheer Across Care Hubz

December arrived with a festive flourish, and the holiday spirit swept through every corner of Care Hubz!
Decorations Galore: Each placement was beautifully adorned for the holidays, with every house featuring its own Christmas tree. From twinkling lights to unique ornaments, the effort put into the decorations truly made each space feel magical.

Mischievous Elves on the Loose!

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a bit of mischief, and this year, Santa’s elves didn’t just visit the Hubz office—they also found their way into the children’s homes! These cheeky helpers caused plenty of playful chaos, rearranging decorations, hiding treats, and bringing laughter wherever they went. Their antics kept everyone entertained and added an extra layer of fun to the holiday preparations.

A Magical Christmas Party

The highlight of the season was our Christmas party, held at Monster Kidz children’s play area. It was filled with excitement, creativity, and festive treats:
In the party room, young people got creative, making their own baubles and decorating gingerbread Christmas trees. The results were fantastic, with everyone taking home their own handmade treasures. The concentration and creativity on display were truly heartwarming, and the finished creations were as unique as the young people who made them.

A traditional Christmas dinner brought the party to a heartwarming close. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal, made even more special by the company of friends and loved ones.

No celebration is complete without presents!

Each young person received a thoughtful gift, adding an extra sparkle to their day.

This December, Care Hubz came alive with the spirit of Christmas. From the incredible decorations and stunning window art at Broadlane House to the joyful chaos brought by the elves and the shared celebrations at our Christmas party, the season reminded us of the importance of togetherness, laughter, and giving.

We want to thank everyone who played a part in making this Christmas so special. Whether you were crafting baubles, enjoying a Sunday dinner, or chasing after cheeky elves, you helped create memories that will last a lifetime.

As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to continue building on these moments of joy and togetherness. Let’s keep the spirit alive and make the new year even more memorable.

Warm wishes for a Happy Holiday and a wonderful New Year from all of us at Care Hubz!

April

Floating Support keyworkers
After leaving school, I worked in the textile industry for over 20 years. To support and encourage my daughter to attend college I completed an access to higher education course, where I had the chance to volunteer at a homeless shelter as part of the curriculum.

My passion for helping others then led me to start working with young people, initially in a mother and baby unit. In 2003, I joined Calderdale Council as a casual residential worker, becoming a permanent staff member in 2007. I then moved to a short break unit for children with learning disabilities in 2011, where I stayed until 2015 before changing my career path to focus more on support than care.

For the next 8 years, I had the privilege of supporting 16-18 year old care leavers, and I was even promoted to manager in 2018. It was a very rewarding experience, but I was eager for a new challenge when the opportunity to become a team leader working with Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) became available. I'm really enjoying the new experiences and the chance to support these young people as they navigate the asylum process and work towards living independently developing skills for community safety and involvement, personal hygiene, and basis English.

Outside of work, I cherish my time with my children and grandchildren. It brings me great joy to be able to spend quality time with my loved ones.
