Christmas Magic at Youth Hubz: A December to Remember

The festive season has well and truly taken over at Youth Hubz, and what a joyful time it has been! December brought with it a flurry of holiday spirit, decorations, and activities that made this Christmas one to remember for everyone involved.

Our placements were transformed into winter wonderlands with beautiful Christmas trees and festive decorations that brought cheer to every corner. The twinkling lights and sparkling ornaments created a magical atmosphere that reminded us all why this time of year is so special.

But the real surprise came early in December when the Hubz office received a visit from some unexpected guests—Santa’s very own elves! These mischievous helpers brought with them plenty of cheer and a little bit of chaos, keeping everyone on their toes. Whether they were rearranging the decorations or sneaking treats, their playful antics added a unique twist to our holiday preparations.

A Christmas Party Full of Joy

The highlight of the season was our Christmas party, a day packed with fun and festive activities for all the young people at Youth Hubz. Hosted at Monster Kidz Children’s Play Area, the celebration had something for everyone.

In the crafting party room, creativity took center stage as everyone got busy making their own baubles and decorating gingerbread trees. The joy and focus on each young person’s face as they worked on their masterpieces was heartwarming to see. These keepsakes are sure to be cherished for years to come.

After a busy day of crafting and playing, everyone came together to enjoy a delicious traditional Sunday dinner. From succulent roasts to comforting sides, the meal was the perfect way to round off the day. And, of course, no Christmas party would be complete without gifts! Every young person received a present, spreading smiles and holiday cheer all around.

This December, Youth Hubz was more than just a place—it became a community filled with laughter, creativity, and togetherness. The festive spirit brought us closer, reminding us of the joy in sharing and celebrating with others.

We’d like to thank everyone who helped make this month so magical. Whether you were busy crafting baubles, chasing mischievous elves, or enjoying a hearty Christmas dinner, you helped create memories that will last a lifetime.

From all of us at Youth Hubz, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here’s to more joy, creativity, and community spirit in the year to come!

April

Floating Support keyworkers
After leaving school, I worked in the textile industry for over 20 years. To support and encourage my daughter to attend college I completed an access to higher education course, where I had the chance to volunteer at a homeless shelter as part of the curriculum.

My passion for helping others then led me to start working with young people, initially in a mother and baby unit. In 2003, I joined Calderdale Council as a casual residential worker, becoming a permanent staff member in 2007. I then moved to a short break unit for children with learning disabilities in 2011, where I stayed until 2015 before changing my career path to focus more on support than care.

For the next 8 years, I had the privilege of supporting 16-18 year old care leavers, and I was even promoted to manager in 2018. It was a very rewarding experience, but I was eager for a new challenge when the opportunity to become a team leader working with Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) became available. I'm really enjoying the new experiences and the chance to support these young people as they navigate the asylum process and work towards living independently developing skills for community safety and involvement, personal hygiene, and basis English.

Outside of work, I cherish my time with my children and grandchildren. It brings me great joy to be able to spend quality time with my loved ones.
